    Position Description:

    As part of BDO’s Advisory Services Practice, the Scientific Research & Experimental Development (SR&ED) team is a National consulting practice with over 80 team members across Canada. We mentor our clients to ensure they meet the SR&ED program requirements, file the necessary forms and reports, and ultimately improve their chances of success with the program. Successful companies then have the ability to allocate further funding to research and development activities on an ongoing basis.

     

    We are currently seeking an exceptional Technical Manager or Senior Manager, SR&ED to be a key contributor to our expanding Canada Central region. This position is based out of our Winnipeg Office. In this capacity you will be an industry expert delivering BDO SR&ED services, cultivating client relationships and guiding the team’s continued success and sustained growth results. You will be an effective leader as part of a dynamic professional services delivery unit and will have the ability to work closely with our clients and peers while shaping the future of the practice.

     

    Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities:

     

    • Coordinate a team of consultants on multiple client engagements/projects
    • Assess technical eligibility, structure projects, and prepare technical reports
    • Successfully manage team resources to achieve performance metrics
    • Ability to identify, target and develop business opportunities to achieve growth objectives
    • Examine client operations and processes to determine eligibility for various government grants, tax credits, and funding programs, developing the appropriate methodology to claim those activities and the methods to maximize those incentives
    • Plan, organize and execute the technical and financial portion of engagements, including interview of technical and financial personnel
    • Collaborate with staff, identify resources involved in those projects
    • Assess documentation, refine processes, and participate in any review meetings to support claims
    • Supervise staff, delegate tasks and projects as required

     

    Education and Professional Skills/Knowledge:

     

    • 7 or more years of related SR&ED experience, with strong experience in the Manufacturing sector
    • Chemical/Mechanical/Industrial/ Engineering undergraduate degree, preferably with P.Eng. designation or equivalent. Masters or PhD degrees would be an asset
    • Working experience in an industrial R&D environment would be an asset
    • A strong personal brand relating to written industry papers, patents, speaking engagements, thought leadership, would be an asset.
    • Develop mentoring skills through coaching of less experienced staff
    • Established relationships with relevant industry organizations
    • Proven project management experience and ability to meet tight client deadlines
    • Experience in research and development projects and reporting processes
    • Knowledge of accounting systems and processes
    • Comfortable dealing with client personnel at all levels of management
    • Willingness to learn new technologies and keep up to date with all CRA compliance policy changes
    • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
    • Able to achieve individual and team objectives
    • Advanced skills in MS Office environment (Word/Excel/PowerPoint/Outlook)
