Position Summary

BDO LLP's Stratford office is seeking a qualified Intermediate Accountant to make the move in to Tax. In an environment of continuous learning, we are looking for an individual who can carry out the completion of work projects and assignments under the supervision of a Manager or experienced Accountants.



Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities

  • Preparation or review of personal, corporate and trust income tax returns along with other tax information forms
  • Assignments also include tax return preparation and compliance work
  • Domestic Tax assignments may include assessing tax changes necessary to meet changing market needs, and working with managers to develop proactive tax strategies to make effective use of business opportunities
  • Dealing with tax authorities on tax audits and appeals
  • Applies relevant technical proficiency and knowledge acquired through assigned work, self study, participation in courses, study of current technical reports and information
  • Research tax issues and prepare memorandum or client letters, including writing report/letter at the appropriate level for the intended audience
  • Prepare tax accrual working in accordance with applicable accounting standards
  • Researching tax issues and documenting this research in tax memos or client letters
  • Effective communication with our clients, with government agencies and with our partners and staff
  • Working cooperatively and effectively with other staff members
  • This role requires minimal travel to other offices and will have frequency in peak busy periods as it relates to client projects
  • Office needs may dictate additional related duties as required


Education and Professional Skills/Knowledge

  • A University degree or College diploma
  • Working toward completion of a professional designation (CPA, CA, CMA or CGA)
  • Planned future enrollment in the CICA In-depth Tax Courses
  • A minimum of 2+ years of public accounting experience
  • Public accounting experience including auditing and the preparation of personal and corporate tax returns
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Solid oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks
  • Strong skills in TaxPrep; Experience in ProFile and CCH Online, and TaxFind for tax research, an asset.
  • Proficiency with MS Office
