Position Summary


BDO Law LLP is a newly formed law firm affiliated with BDO Canada LLP, one of Canada's largest accounting services firms. BDO Law offers a wide range of corporate and commercial legal services to clients across Canada. We work in a fast paced, team-oriented environment based out of BDO Canada’s National office in downtown Toronto.


BDO Law LLP has an immediate opening for an entrepreneurial individual with a securities registration and compliance background to support the growth of BDO’s integrated audit and assurance, tax and legal services for portfolio managers, investment fund managers, exempt market dealers and other securities registrants in Canada.  


The successful candidate will have an opportunity for professional development by putting forth his or her best efforts through assisting prospective and existing registrants, while developing BDO’s profile within the investment management industry.


Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities

  • Regularly advise clients on initial and ongoing securities registrant obligations;
  • Proficient in the Canadian securities registration framework, including NI 31-103 and NI 33-109
  • Understand financial products such as ETFs, hedge funds, MICs and other investment vehicles
  • Assist with the negotiation, drafting, review and execution of agreements for dealers, portfolio managers and investment fund managers;
  • Prepare regulatory applications and assist with regulatory strategy on complex projects and issues;
  • Ensure effective communication BDO’s clients and applicable regulators on all regulatory matters;
  • Participating and advising on regulatory reforms and policy development
  • Continued involvement in the investment community and constant monitoring of industry-related regulatory changes;
  • Sustain and develop your knowledge of regulatory compliance and other areas of securities law that affect BDO’s clients.


Education and Professional Skills/Knowledge

  • Demonstrated interest in securities regulatory compliance and the portfolio management, dealing and investment fund industries;
  • Ideally, admitted or qualified to be admitted by transfer to the Bar of Ontario (admissions to other Canadian provincial bars would be advantageous) or an accounting, finance or other designation would be considered with demonstrated industry expertise;
  • At least 2-4 years’ related work experience;
  • Confident communicator, able to advise clients, participate in industry events, influence and motivate;
  • Strong written communication abilities;
  • Analytical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to handle a high volume of matters and a focus on quality and timeliness;
  • An entrepreneurial spirit!
