Job Description (EN)

BDO’s Financial Advisory Services practice (FAS) is growing! Our role in the FAS group is to provide Business Valuation, Litigation Support, and Damage Quantification services to internal and external clients. Our valuation services primarily include rendering of conclusions on the value of businesses and quantification of damages.

We are currently recruiting for either a Valuations Analyst or a Senior Valuations Analyst to join our Financial Advisory Services practice in one of the following locations: Edmonton, Calgary or Kelowna. We are seeking a CPA Student for the Valuations Analyst position or a newly qualified CPA to join our team as a Senior Valuations Analyst.

Summary of Position

The Valuations Analyst/Senior Valuations Analyst will play an active role in supporting senior staff in business valuation and damage quantification mandates. This would include valuations prepared in the context of litigation support, tax planning and general business valuation mandates and damage quantification reports prepared in the context of commercial litigation and business interruption loss work.

 

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities

  • Play an active role in carrying out business valuation and damage quantification mandates.
  • Take part in discussions and meetings with the owners and management of the companies involved.
  • With the team's support, analyze company and industry-specific strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats with a view to determining the cash flow risks of the companies involved.
  • With the team's support, participate in the financial modeling used for the valuation or damage quantification.
  • With the team's support, draft detailed valuation reports and other expert reports.
  • Develop relationships with BDO's current and prospective clients, including external referral sources such as lawyers and bankers.
  • Provide ongoing communication with senior staff concerning file execution and service area development initiatives.
  • Participate in external marketing events with other members of the BDO team.

 

Education and Professional Skills/Knowledge

 

  • A Canadian Chartered Professional Accountant designation (Senior Valuations Analyst) or a CPA student (Valuations Analyst)
  • Currently or willing to pursue a CBV designation
  • A minimum of two years of public accounting experience is preferred, including audit experience
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Exceptional writing skills
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills, primarily Word, Excel, and Powerpoint
